Dans l’obscure noirceur d’Invincible Invisible, l’artiste met en relation des matières au potentiel symbolique judicieusement choisies et certains procédés artistiques témoignant d’une méticuleuse recherche contextuelle. Évoquant tant le souvenir que l’inconnu, Atce’n, Met’co et Ashuaps qualifient trois cryptides endémiques à la région du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. Naissant dans la tradition orale, ces créatures s’alimentent de nombreuses sources culturelles et cultuelles subsistant dans le folklore sous forme de contes ou de mythes. L’artiste joue de l’exagération entourant ces histoires et d’autres trouvailles pour faire glisser leur fonction, autrefois socio-éducative, vers de nouveaux motifs. Par la mise en parallèle des cultures, Jonathan Naas a été guidé par le hasard et les croyances locales pour démystifier le point d’équilibre des concepts, où le matériel peut en arriver à être transfiguré en immatériel, tout comme le visible, en invisible.

Cette résidence a été réalisée dans le cadre des Résidences croisées Grand Est, France / Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec du Frac Alsace et de Langage Plus, en collaboration avec le Centre SAGAMIE et le CEAAC.

In the black darkness of Invincible Invisible, the artist combines carefully chosen materials with symbolic potential and artistic processes that attest to his meticulous contextual research. Evoking both memory and the unknown, Atce’n, Met’co and Ashuaps represent three cryptids that are endemic to the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Arising out of the oral tradition, these creatures originate in numerous cultural and cultish sources that survive in the form of tales and legends. The artist plays with the exaggeration associated with these stories and other findings to transform their former social and instructive function into new patterns. In drawing parallels between cultures, Jonathan Naas was guided by chance and local beliefs to demystify the point where the concepts overlap, where the material can be transformed into the immaterial, just as the visible becomes invisible.
